The Union of Mashriq Republics, sometimes called the UMR or just the Mashriq, is a supranational union comprised of 20 constituent republics, one special autonomous region, and one federal district. The nation is located mostly within Southwest Asia, particularly on the Arabian Peninsula and neighboring mountain regions, on Earth. The UMR has two extraplanetary holdings, the Republic of Janubii on Luna and the Mashriq Republic of Cydonia on Mars. With a population of 545 million, the UMR is the fifth-most-populous nation on Earth, 84 million behind the United States of America and 78 million ahead of the Union of South American Nations. The capital of the UMR is Abu Dhabi, within the Republic of Abu Dhabi, and the largest city is Baghdad, in Iraq.
